It’s written by the same team behind Baptiste and The Missing. The six-part series is set in the Australian outback, where a British man finds himself being pursued by a huge tank truck that is trying to drive him off the road. After an epic game of cat and mouse, the man wakes up in hospital, hurt but alive. The BBC says “it’s a story of self-discovery with a ticking timebomb underneath; as the man starts to uncover the mystery of who he was, he’s also forced to ask who he is now – and fast. Will he unlock the secrets of his identity before those who are trying to kill him catch up with him?” Watch Now Scream – cinemas nationwide (14th January) The original and iconic Scream film was released in the 1990s and twenty-five years later we are back in the town of Woodsboro, California, to help Sidney Prescott uncover the truth as a new killer emerges to terrify the town. The upcoming Scream sequel has teased the identity of the masked killer in a clever new poster. The artwork depicts 12 of the film’s characters, with their faces positioned underneath the famous “Ghostface” mask. At the bottom of the image, there is the tagline: “The killer is on this poster.” The film also sees the return of fan favourites, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. Read Here BOOKS The Lost Daughter – Elena Ferrante The Lost Daughter has recently been adapted by Maggie Gyllenhaal into a film starring Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson – available to watch on Netflix on the 31st December. The film is already generating an Oscar buzz and won Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival. We’d highly recommend reading the book that the film is based on. The Lost Daughter tells the story of Leda, an English teacher whose children have recently gone to live with their father in Canada. Leda expected to feel loneliness and longing for her daughters but feels liberated by their absence. A holiday in southern Italy and an encounter with a brash family force her to question her unconventional choices. “The Lost Daughter is a compelling and perceptive meditation on womanhood and motherhood, exploring the conflicting emotions that tie us to our children.” Read Now Harlem Shuffle – Colson Whitehead Harlem Shuffle is an inspired and original story set in Harlem, New York in the 1960s. “It’s a family saga masquerading as a crime novel, a hilarious morality play, a social novel about race and power and ultimately a love letter to Harlem.” The story follows Ray Carney and his family as they manage life, work and relationships whilst trying to strive for a better life. It also happens to be one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of the year! For fifteen years, you could call a number in Manhattan, New York, and do just that. This is the story of the line, and the man at the other end who became consumed by his own creation. He was known as “Mr. Apology.” As thousands of callers flooded the line, confessing to everything from shoplifting to infidelity, drug dealing to murder, Mr. Apology realised he couldn’t just listen. He had to do something, even if it meant risking everything.” Listen Now My Therapist Ghosted Me – Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally The Irish comedian, Joanne McNally, and the Irish presenter and influencer, Vogue Williams, join forces for a weekly chat and debate about life and issues as a thirty-something woman. “My Therapist Ghosted Me” is the result of Joanne’s therapist doing just that! Ignoring her calls, refusing to answer the door at the clinic, or speak to her after she’d tracked him down at Enfield crematorium as he scattered his Aunt’s ashes. Despite it all, it’s often said that friends give the best therapy, so Vogue and Joanne have teamed up to do exactly that (alongside a generous helping of laughter as that too is said to be the best form of therapy). Together they will give 100% unqualified, unsubstantiated but up front and honest advice on the plethora of issues they and many others continue to grapple with.” Listen Now EVENTS Burns Big Night In – At Home- 19.00-20.45 on 22nd Jan 2022 Covid restrictions are still in place in Scotland so the best way to celebrate Burns Night this year is at home!
