Con IconCons

It’s an expensive tool for something you can do for free.

What is it?

The Elvie Trainer is an expert-designed pelvic floor trainer that measures pelvic floor contractions, cutting the guesswork out of your workout. Connect to a gamified app to visualise and perfect your technique. When you squeeze, the gem lifts, and when you relax, the gem drops, keeping your core fit while having fun.

Overall Thoughts?

“Even though I had a traumatic birth and sadly suffered significant damage to my pelvic floor, I’m terrible at remembering to do my exercises. But as I’ve undergone three surgeries, I was worried using the Elvie trainer would be painful or cause more damage than good. But after checking with my doctor, I was safe to use it. Now, it’s part of my weekly routine, and it’s making a difference in the strength of my pelvic floor. It has helped me feel stronger and trust my body again.”

How Do You Use it?

“You pop it in like a tampon. It’s smooth and doesn’t hurt at all. Granted, it feels a bit odd at first (like you’re using a sex toy!), but you quickly get over that. The device pairs with an app on your phone, and you follow the directions to squeeze and release. And it works like a game where you move a gem up and down. It’s a clever way to understand if you’re doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly.”

Any downsides?

“Well, you could just do your Kegels without paying for this, and you’d obviously save yourself some money, so there’s that. And it’s important not to overuse it, as overworking your pelvic floor can be damaging. It’s also worth getting the okay from your doctor or a women’s health physiotherapist and following Elvie’s guidance on usage. In the beginning, I kept forgetting to use it, but now I’ve set up reminders, which help me remember, and I keep it by my bed. Now, I generally never miss a training session; if I do, I just push the session on to another day.”
