TMC Family Recipe Of The Week: Gingerbread Men

Ingredients:

225g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
½ tsp salt
2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 heaped tsp ground ginger
½ tsp cinnamon
50g unsalted butter
100g soft brown sugar
100g golden syrup

Method:

STEP 1
Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5 and line a baking tray with baking parchment. Sieve the flour, salt, bicarb, ginger and cinnamon into a large bowl. Heat the butter, sugar and syrup until dissolved. Leave the sugar mixture to cool slightly, then mix into the dry ingredients to form a dough. Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 mins.

STEP 2
On a surface lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a ¼-inch thickness. Stamp out the gingerbread men shapes with a cutter, then re-roll any off-cuts and repeat. Place your gingerbread shapes on the lined trays, allowing space for them to spread. Cook for 10-15 mins, then remove from the oven and leave to cool.

What is it?
What is it?

A bespoke skincare regime that is so easy to obtain. The online tool enables you to choose the products that suit your particular skin concerns, and it takes minutes to do. You’re left with a beautiful selection of products made with natural and fresh formulas and a regime that’s easy to use and follow. It’s a significant step to getting healthier and happier skin.

Overall Thoughts

I loved selecting my products and found it so enjoyable to do. When the products arrived, I was so excited to try them, and I loved every single one. I chose the Smoothing Cleanser Complexion Purifier, which is gentle and ideal for a quick morning or evening cleanse. I also picked the Morning Mist Soothing Toning Essence. It’s so refreshing and has the most beautiful scent. It’s great for tired faces and mums who want to moisturise their skin quickly. My skin was feeling dry, so I opted for the Skin Re-Leaf Soothing Moisturiser, and it was lovely, light, and not too heavy, which is what lots of skin quenching prods can be. The last treatment product I tried was the Comfort Food Deep Hydration Mask, which is perfect for winter and sinks in quickly. It isn’t sticky, and I used it as a moisturiser when wfh and as a night cream.

Yes you save £20 by opting for this collection, which is worth £86. Plus, you can make further savings by choosing Tropic’s refill options.

“I think a lot of people struggle with what products to use and how to use them, and this product selector makes it so easy. The skincare is also so beautiful. I’m a complete skincare obsessive, so it takes a lot for me to be impressed, and I’m definitely going to be purchasing some more products from the range and telling my friends about it.”

Products Picked

Smoothing Cleanser Complexion Purifier: “Perfect for AM & PM cleanse. Gentle enough for pregnancy and hormonal skin. And there’s an unfragranced option available for sensitive skins”.

Morning Mist Soothing Toning Essence: “It has a lovely light scent that’s refreshing and smells like cucumber.”

Skin Re-Leaf Soothing Moisturiser: “It’s not too heavy, like lots of skin-quenching prods can be and makes skin feel hydrated and smooth.”

Comfort Food Deep Hydration Mask “It sinks in quickly – it isn’t sticky & I used it as a moisturiser when WFH and also as a night cream.”

Recipe of the Week: Emma Louise Connolly’s Crispy Roasties

Crispy, delicious roasties, that you can prepare days or even weeks in advance.

Ingredients…

1 heaped tbsp of baking powder
Potatoes (as many as you like)
Cooking oill
Rosemary and garlic – if you want even more flavour

Method…

1. Turn the oven up to 200C. Peel & chop your potatoes. The little ones are the best so make sure you cut a few smaller ones.
2. Add to a large pot of salted, cold water. Add 1 heaped tbsp of baking powder and stir it through.
3. Par boil for around 8-10 minutes or until a knife easily goes through, but doesn’t break the potato. Drain the potatoes (you can be a little rough with this, give them a good shake around to fluff up the edges – these will be the crispy bits!)
4. In an oven tray (flameproof if you have a gas hob – metal works best!) add around 2cm of oil & heat over the hob. Please be VERY careful and don’t do this when kids are around, it gets unbelievably hot. Use tongs & add the potatoes to the hot oil. Crisp one side & then coat the potatoes in the hot oil. You can add rosemary or garlic here if you like.
5. Pop into the oven for around 45 minutes, season generously with sea salt & thank me later! Merry Christmas!

Watch How to Make Them…

Prepare them in advance

Prepare the roasties the night before by part-roasting them (this means all you have to do is finish them off in the oven before you serve them up).
Prepare them the night before WITHOUT part-roasting them (this means getting them to the point where you could put them in the oven, pop them in the fridge instead, then all you have to do is roast when you’re ready to).
Prepare them further in advance and freeze them (you can get them to the point where they’re ready to roast, but freeze them instead, until it’s time and then you can defrost them and cook as normal.

It has tons of add-on accessories

You can buy a silicone top to make it suitable for mealtimes

Adjustable legs, which means it suits different ages and heights

It is beautifully made and sturdy

Con IconCons

It’s expensive, and the add-ons are pricey too

Overall Thoughts

I have two toddlers (2 & 3.5). Our other table’s varnished top has started to wear. So, I was looking for a better-made table that would last longer. The fact that you can switch the top so easily is brilliant. My eldest even does it himself and loves building Duplo and drawing on the board. We’ve started using it for mealtimes, so I need to invest in the silicone top, but unlike the cheaper product we had before, it’s great to know that elements can be easily replaced if something is damaged. It’s quite an expensive item, but I love that it can be adjusted and adapted as they grow, and it looks stylish, so I’m happy for this one to stick around.

Is it good value?
Is it good value?

It’s undoubtedly expensive, but as with all well-made furniture, you get what you pay for. Stokke also often has sales or clear-outs on accessories that fit the Mu Table, so it’s worth watching for them as you can get a bargain.

Would you recommend it?
Would you recommend it?

Absolutely. I was hesitant over the price, but now that we have it in our home, it makes sense to me as it can be used for many things, and we’re already planning which new accessories to add as Christmas or Birthday presents.

Easy – few mins to cook from frozen

Variety of meal options and hidden veggies

Appealing packaging – engages child

Con IconCons

Cost – couldn’t rely on it long term but a few meals here and there is helpful

Overall Thoughts

With a slightly fussy eater I was really keen for my 3.5 year old to try these meals from Rumble Tums. When the box arrived with fun, colourful packaging and a sheet of stickers, we were already off to a good start.

What was it like?
What was it like?

First meal up was Hey Presto Chicken Pesto! Coming from a child who, majority of the time, will only eat meat if it’s shaped like dinosaurs and covered in breadcrumbs, I was unsure how this would go down but she loved it! The carrot and potato ‘chips’ were a win too and luckily the portion size was enough for seconds. The Tuna Bakey was another huge hit and I love that this one is packed with hidden veggies in the sauce. There are also side pots of greens which are really useful for additional veg.

Would you recommend it?

Definitely! We got to a point where my little one was excited to choose her next meal and I can’t tell you the relief of knowing dinner time can now be simple, she’s getting the nutrients she needs, and on top of that, the fact that the meals are frozen is a game changer. Because how much easier is mum life when there’s a healthy, delicious and very nutritious meal prepared in the freezer that only takes a few mins to heat?! And your kid will actually eat it – I’m converted.
