We’ve tried the pre-mades and they just don’t seem to cut it. So we decided that an easy to make mulled wine recipe needed to be in our locker and thankfully Taming Twins is on hand to help with her slow cooker method. Just pour, simmer, sieve and sip!


To slow cook:

2x 750 ml Bottles of red wine (Rioja or Merlot)
125 g Light brown sugar
1 Large orange, peeled zest and juice
8 Cloves
4 Star anise
4 Cinnamon sticks

To serve:

2 tsp Vanilla extract
100 ml Brandy (optional)
1 Large orange, cut into slices

Watch How to Make It…


1. Put the slow cook ingredients into the slow cooker on HIGH for 2 hours of LOW for 3-4 hours.

2. Before serving, remove the spices and orange zest that have been cooked (if you wish!) Use a sieve or slotted spoon to do this.

3. Then add the extra ingredients and serve.
