It can be hard to reconnect to the sexual feelings you tapped into before and not just see yourself as a mum. On top of that, you’re tired, busy and, on most days, over-touched. Sex might be the furthest thing from your mind right now. And that’s ok! There is no rush. How a Bit of Self-Love Can Help Your Sex Drive Women’s Health Advocate Clio Wood says, “Your body has transformed during pregnancy and birth; your mind is different too. What turns you on and how you feel in your body might be different to before. Sex can feel slightly daunting when we don’t know what to expect, so spending some time alone masturbating or touching your body can help you reconnect with yourself and know what you want from sex with your partner.” 3 Different Ways to Masturbate You can thank us later….

Mum Guilt: Why We Need To Let That Sh*t Go!Read More Stop Comparing Yourself To Others You are NOT the same as your best mate, sister, or mum. Your life is different. YOU are different. Stop comparing what you do against… Post author By The Mum Club Post date 2 October 2023 No Comments on Mum Guilt: Why We Need To Let That Sh*t Go! Mum Guilt: Why We Need To Let That Sh*t Go! Stop Comparing Yourself To Others You are NOT the same as your best mate, sister, or mum. Your life is different. YOU are different. Stop comparing what you do against what they do. Where they’re excelling, you might struggle, but we bet they envy some of the parental practices you deploy. Parent how you want to parent, and we bet the way that looks is just great. You’re Gonna Feel It No Matter What You Do Even if you’re Mary Freakin’ Poppins, you will feel guilt. SAHM, working Mum, solo mum, lesbian mum, leave me alone mum, play all day mum. YOU WILL FEEL GUILT. You’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t. Like water to a flame, you’re just giving it the fire it wants. So go easy on yourself and give yourself a break. Kids Are Happy Doing Very Little You don’t need to be an all-singing, all-dancing kiddie centre tour guide. One of the best things about young children is that they love discovering the simple things in life. Be it the garden centre, the weekly shop or popping to the local park *or pub. Keep it simple. There’s plenty of time for adventures in Peppa Pig world and such. Right now, they’re just happy being around you. Take Everything You See With A Pinch Of Salt It’s normal to wonder how the Insta perfect mum stays happy while she’s covered in glitter and caring for kids all day. Or how a working mum fits in all her travels, socialising and still has family time. They feel guilt too. Remember, you’re not seeing everything. What we see online is just a snippet of what really goes on in people’s lives. You Can’t Pour From An Empty Cup You time is imperative to parenting. If you are fulfilled, your child will feel that and shine like a beacon. Leaving your kids to do something for you is not something to feel guilt over. It is for them because it is for you. It’s that simple. Give Yourself Room To Not Be ‘Perfect’ Whatever you think that ‘perfect’ is. Give yourself a break. Nothing will happen like you’d like it to all the time. Embrace the imperfection. You’re doing an incredible job! Stand By Your Choices Make choices based on your values, and then stand by those choices. It’s natural to wobble once you’ve made a decision, *especially if your MIL makes a snide comment. But if you’ve decided to do something and considered the options (about three million times). We bet it’s the best thing to do.

TMC Recipe of the Week: Salted Dark chocolate Date BarkRead More View this post on Instagram A post shared by Deliciously Ella (@deliciouslyella) Post author By The Mum Club Post date 2 October 2023 TMC Recipe of the Week: Salted Dark chocolate Date Bark Ingredients • 20 Medjool dates, pitted • 1/2 cup Peanuts, Raw • 1/3 cup Peanut butter, Creamy • 1 1/2 cups Chocolate chips • 1 Pinch Salt, Flaky • 1 tsp Coconut oil Method 1. To make this bark, start by preparing the dates: slice the dates open and remove the pits. Then, smash them down and line them up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. 2. Next, spray a drinking glass with oil (I used coconut oil) and use the bottom of the glass to press the dates down and flatten them. 3. Then, use a spoon to drizzle the peanut butter over the dates, and top with the crushed peanuts. 4. Set the tray aside and add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a small bowl. 5. Melt the chocolate by placing the bowl into the microwave and heating it in 2-3, 30 second increments, being sure to stir in-between. 5. Then, pour the melted chocolate on top of the date and peanut mixture, then refrigerate for one hour or freeze for 35 minutes, until the chocolate is set. 6. Once done, sprinkle with flaky salt, break apart, and enjoy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to one week. Recipe of the Week: Chicken, Sausage & Apple Cider StewRead More Post author By The Mum Club Post date 28 September 2023 Recipe of the Week: Chicken, Sausage & Apple Cider Stew Ingredients 8 skinless chicken thigh fillets , cut into large chunks 8 pork sausages 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into chunks 1 onion, chopped 2 tsp light olive oil, for frying 2 tsp fennel seeds, lightly crushed 20g sage leaves, chopped 1 tbsp plain flour 500ml dry cider 200ml chicken stock Method 1. Heat a little oil in a deep saucepan and brown the chicken thighs in two batches. Allow them to brown fully before turning, to stop them sticking (around 3 mins each side). Deglaze the pan with a splash of cider between batches, adding any residue to the stock. Add more oil to the pan as needed. 2. Set the chicken aside and use the same pan to brown the sausages all over for around 2 mins, then remove from the pan. If there is a lot of fat left from the sausages, spoon some of it out leaving just a little in the pan. 3. Brown the chunks of squash for 2 mins, remove and set aside. 4. Put a little more oil in the pan, followed by the onion, and cook gently for 5 mins. Then add half the sage and all of the fennel seeds and cook, stirring for 2 mins more. 5. Add the flour and stir for 2 mins. Pour in the cider and stock, whisking to prevent lumps, and bring to the boil. 6. Return the chicken, sausages and squash to the pan and simmer for 15 mins, or until everything is cooked through, stirring in the rest of the sage 2 mins before the end. 7. Serve with green beans and potatoes – or celeriac mash if you’re feeling a little more adventurous.
Nursery Sickness Made Me Want to Quit My JobRead More TMC’s Editor Lydia House explains how she dealt with sickness after returning to work. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Working Momkind (@workingmomkind) “My husband and I… Post author By The Mum Club Post date 25 September 2023 Nursery Sickness Made Me Want to Quit My Job “It was when I turned to my husband and said, “I hate my life and I’m feeling depressed”, that I realised something needed to change.” TMC’s Editor Lydia House explains how she dealt with sickness after returning to work. Returning to work… “After deciphering my work and ‘mum life’ scenario, I felt confident about returning to work.” “I was excited to start a new job, and after dropping my youngest off at nursery and seeing how happy he was, I felt the most extraordinary mental release.” “As I had my first coffee alone, preparing to sit down to work and tackle the day, I felt free and in control.” “It was so lovely to plan and plot in some meetings while slotting in elements of self-care. I could now book fitness classes before work and even have a pedi before pick-ups. I was so excited to get a slice of my old life back.” “And then my phone rang…” Juggling sickness and a job “After only two days I had to collect my son from nursery because he had a high temp.” “Then in the days and weeks that followed, multiple bugs hit our household and for a large part of it my husband was also away on business. The illness list on the nursery door started to feel like a joke. I felt like I was living in a nightmare.” “My new company was understanding and gave me some time off, but I still had to accomplish a certain degree of work. Which meant looking after sick children, battling my own illnesses and working in the evening or around naps.” “I felt overwhelmed. It was all-encompassing. And I started to feel like I couldn’t even think. I had to cancel everything, and I began to feel like I could never plan ahead through fear of letting people down.” “It made me feel disconnected from reality, that I was becoming a bad friend, and never before have I felt such sadness and an inability to cope.” Hitting rock bottom… “I find it hard to vocalise my feelings and often they come out either in an argument or in bed when all is calm, just before my husband and I go to sleep. And I remember this moment vividly. With our backs turned I whispered, “I hate my life and I feel like I’m depressed.” Unsurprisingly shocked and saddened, he responded, “It’s just a moment. It’ll pass, and it’ll get better. It’s just really tough right now.”” “And while he was right, life had become a horrible treadmill for me. The nursery calls and pick-ups were all on me, and the caregiving, house, and life admin – all on me! And on top of this, I had a new job that I wanted to excel at. Ok, it wasn’t as well paid as his, but it was my career, and I wanted to have the chance to be brilliant at it. On top of this, all self-care methods were certainly not being done. I wasn’t eating well or exercising, and I don’t think I’d shaved my legs for at least a month. I wasn’t in a good way, and something needed to change.” Did I need to quit my job? “Was the solution that we pulled them out of the nursery, and I quit my job? Maybe I’d gone back to work too soon. Perhaps they were too small? Maybe they needed to be with a nanny instead of in the nursery. But how would I make that work? I always said I wanted them to socialise in childcare rather than being with one person as I would feel like they would be replacing me. But maybe I was wrong? And then I saw this Instagram post about a woman who went through the same thing. It made me realise it wasn’t the childcare that needed to change; it was me.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Working Momkind (@workingmomkind) What we did to improve our situation “My husband and I agreed we needed a contingency plan for when shit hit the fan. It couldn’t all be on me anymore.” We asked for help We used grandparents (*and infected them) a lot! They stopped wanting to come over a bit. And we were worried we might kill them a few times. But they saved us! We shared the load Just because someone earns more or works more doesn’t mean the other person should take on everything else in the home, and it took me nearly breaking for us to realise that. Now things are a lot more even, and it helps. We give each other space on weekends If it has been a tough week for me or my husband, one of us takes the kids away for a morning or afternoon at the weekend. We’ve realised we don’t always have to go to every family event or children’s class. And often this time and peace is all we need to reboot. We booked a buffer day I only work part-time, so we added another half day to the time our children are at nursery. This extra cost might seem like an indulgence, and it’s a privilege, I know! But it’s enabled me to push work on if I need to take time out to care for them earlier in the week. And when they’re not sick, I use it to do stuff for the house or even for myself. The impact it’s made on my mental health vs. the cost doesn’t even come close and it’s worth every penny. We remind ourselves it’s just a phase After a few stints of sickness and cancelling plans, we realised that everything could be rescheduled. There’s no denying it might be shit for a while, but as they get older and their immune systems get stronger, it gets easier and less frequent. Other things that could help Mix up your childcare options “To widen their options, some parents use nursery a few days a week, and then they have a nanny on the other days. We decided against it as it seemed like another thing I’d have to manage but I have often thought it would be handy to have another person to call when I’m really stuck. It can be helpful to have lots of childcare options in case things don’t go to plan. Obviously if your children are sick they need to be looked after at home but having extra options can be helpful, especially if you’re ill yourself, if can’t get to the nursery to pick up, or if you’re back-pedalling and need to ask for extra help.” Get outside “If the kids are off school and you can’t work, take the opportunity to slow down. Enjoy the cuddles, forget the housework and your external stresses and focus on what’s important (*which is getting you and your family healthy again). Whenever the kids are off sick, if it is possible (and they’re not vomming) I bundle them up in the double pram and head out for a walk. The fresh air does wonders for my mood and it lifts them too.” Rework your self-care “If you’ve had to cancel appointments and the concept of glossy blow-dried hair seems like a dream. Then get in that shower! Treat yourself to a new body wash, a face mask, some new loungewear or anything that you can enjoy at home that will make you feel good while you’re stuck there. Get to bed earlier, drink herbal tea and practice a slower pace of life where you’re looking after yourself. Book an at home massage or a treatment at the weekend when your partner is home to take the kids. Maybe even book one for them too. Whatever works – just do it! You’ll feel so much better.” Speak to your work “You’re certainly not the first parent to encounter going back to work when you have a small child. So speak to your company and get their advice. Find out what the protocol is for dealing with situations like this. Hopefully they’ll be understanding and they’ll help you but if they’re not then don’t be afraid to read up on your rights. The days you’re allowed off will depend on your contract but the Citizens Advice Bureau also states: “You can take up to 18 weeks’ unpaid leave before your child is five. The Gov UK website recommends checking the details of your employment contract, your company handbook or the intranet site to get clued up on their individual policy. And remember BOTH parents are allowed time off to look after their children.” GOV UK: Time off for family and dependants Share the organisation of what going back to work looks like “Instead of waiting to speak to your partner when the shit hits the fan. Do it before you return to work. Have a few plans in place and decide how things might work together. You might have already done this but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it again. If you share the mental load in the beginning it should mean that if things need to be shifted and rejigged you’ll both feel responsible about managing it.” Be kind to yourself “It’s common to feel like you’re trying and failing at everything. But it’s important to be kind to yourself in these moments and slow down. Take things as they come, minute by minute. And try not to think too much about what’s going to happen and be kind to yourself. You can only do so much.”

Water beakers are great to offer to older babies, and for kids to have by the side of their beds – as they don’t leak or spill. 360 Sippy Cup Munchkin Buy Now Buy some antioxidant rich honey If they’re over one year old, try warm water with lemon and honey. We like Jarrah honey – it’s expensive but it’s two to three times higher in antioxidants than Manuka, so all the better for fighting of bugs. Manuka Honey Jarrah Gold Buy Now Feed them flu fighting foods For children that are weaning or weaned, cold-busting solids include: Bananas – rich in vitamin C to boost the immune system and potassium to aid their sleep. Sweet potatoes – loaded with vitamins, fibre, and so filling. Porridge (easy to digest, warm in their tummies and for babies over one you can add honey. Vitamin C Sambucol Buy Now This is the best humidifier for your babies room Air humidifiers keep the air moist and some have a diffuser function which allows you to add soothing essential oils such as lavender (hello sleep… we wholly recommend). The genius Babymoov also acts as a night light with calming colour settings. It’ll keep the air damp so noses and throats don’t feel quite as dry; especially helpful when winter brings central heating. Humidifier Babymoov Buy Now Make your own steam room If you have a bathroom with a bath and a separate shower cubicle, turn the shower on during bathtime and set it to REALLY hot. The bathroom will function as a makeshift steam room, helping to unblock your babe. Can I raise their head with a pillow? Some mums use blankets folded underneath bedding to help raise their children’s heads or pillows if older. However, it is not suggested to use pillows to prop up young babies heads, so check at what age it is appropriate for you to do this. Saline drops will help them breath Saline drops are great for clearing the airway. Use drops for babies and the spray for bigger kids. It might only last for a couple of hours but every little helps. Saline Drops Calpol Buy Now Get Their Vits In Vitamins won’t kill a cold but they do give your body strength to fight it. Kids who eat a sensibly balanced diet get everything they need from their food, but if you have a fruit and veg refusenik on your hands you might need to top up their vits. We like Zarbee’s for older children, Nature’s Aid drops for babies. Multi-Vitamins Zarbee’s® Children’s MultiVits + Immune Support Liquid Buy Now What about probiotics and immune boosters? We’re huge believers in taking probiotics to help create a healthy gut, and that thought extends to our children. Optibac is our favoured brand, it is developed especially for babies, toddlers and children and contains a unique blend of 3 of the most scientifically researched strains for children from 0 to 12 years. You can also give your children Sambucol which is packed full of antioxidants and other ingredients that help support a healthy immune system (basically we’ll try anything!). Probiotics Optibac Buy Now Put vapour rub on their chest and feet (yes feet!) Smother a vapour rub on their chest, back and a touch on their nose, and on their feet. Yes their feet! Apply to the soles of your baby’s feet then put some socks over the top (it works just as well with an all in one). Keeping your babies feet warm will also help them sleep and get over the virus faster… then when they turn two you can turn to Vicks. Baby Vapour Rub Vicks Buy Now And finally…suck it out That’s right, suck the snot right out of their nose. Yes you can buy one of those snot sucking machines that work very well but honestly the best way is to do it yourself. No, they won’t thank you for it. No, you won’t feel good about it, but if it gives you a few hours of sleep it’s worth it, right? Just knock it back with a massive gulp of wine and we’ll never speak of this again. Until next time… Nasal Aspirator Braun Buy Now Tags 5minuteread, Yournaptimeknowhow

Cons Bigger sizes might be hard to fit in standard washing machines Overall thoughts I thought washing a rug wouldn’t be possible, but this works. I went for the Iris Apfel Birds of a Feather design, which looks like a work of art. I was sceptical that it wouldn’t be as nice after washing, but it came out brand new. There’s also no need to add rug grippers as you can add a cushioned Rug Pad to your order, and this not only makes the rug feel soft underfoot but acts as an anchor to the floor. The only downside might be the size of your machine. I opted for a larger rug to fill the playroom floor, which just about fits in mine. But unless you have a huge drum, you might want to remember this when choosing sizes. Otherwise, it may mean a trip to the dry cleaners – not the end of the world, but worth considering. What is it? Iris Apfel Birds Of A Feather Green & Peach Rug Washable Rug. Is it good value? Yes, rugs are expensive, so I wouldn’t say they were ‘cheap’, but these rugs are certainly value for money and offer so much variety and a range of prices it can work for all budgets. Would you recommend it? Definitely, the quality is excellent, and they’re affordable. There’s a vast range to choose from, and the fact that you can wash them makes them so unique. If you’ve ever spent a fortune on a rug and attempted to remove a stain, you’ll understand why this is so good! Latest Deals From Retailers £299+ View Now
