They are Insane From wearing a Christmas jumper in a heatwave to throwing a fit because you’ve given them the wrong spoon. It’s official – those tiny-dictators are entirely unhinged. You Now Share Everything Everything! Including meals that are identical to theirs. Sat directly next to theirs. But on your plate. Sometimes Their Voice Grates On Your Soul Of course, there is also no sweeter sound. But have you ever been asked to go swimming 450,000 times in the space of 3 hours? *Top tip: do not mention ANY activity until 15 minutes before said activity. Trust us. Letting Them into The Bathroom With You Does Nothing For Self Esteem From wondering why each month you’re putting a sweetie up your bum. (*FYI, we’re not). To asking where your willy is? And if they can see your poo?! **The toilet is no longer a safe space. They Lose Everything and Blame You The meltdowns that follow the loss of items are next level. From those new rainbow sunglasses to the favourite new toy they insisted on taking into nursery (and losing!). It will always be YOUR problem. If you haven’t already. NEVER introduce marbles into your home. They will lose them, and you will lose yours. When They Go Quiet- Worry! They’re either drawing on the walls, covering themselves in Sudocrem, climbing something unstable, or sh*tting on the sofa. *Never trust the silence. They Wake Up Really F*cking Early We’ve bought the sleep clocks and blackout blinds and thinking about stairgating their bedroom door. Their Innocence Is The Best Thing Ever They will say the best things at the hardest of times. It will bring a smile to everyones face. They’re bloody hard work, but you will miss this crazy-ass time. They Complete The Day By 9AM Play-Doh, drawing, dress up, 400 snacks, that craft set you thought would last the day, every episode of Peppa sodding Pig. All before the postman comes. Magazines Are Their Crack Sure, they might take the edge off for 5 minutes but they are £7 and NOT worth it. We regret the day we introduced them / Grandma did.

Cons Our room was quite warm. It had a Dyson fan, but we’ll request one with A/C next time. What is it? Watergate Bay Hotel Watergate Bay Hotel is a family-friendly hotel in Cornwall that is so close to the sea that you can see surfers from the pool, restaurants, and spa. It has a kids’ club, babysitters, and baby monitors that work across all of its incredible restaurants. It’s relaxed, stylish and cool and offers outstanding customer service. Overall Thoughts… I can’t express how much we loved this hotel. It sits right at the front of Watergate Bay, with an abundance of activity and adventure on your doorstep. It’s family-friendly with a serious slice of cool. Everything was excellent from the spa treatments and surf, to the incredible food and customer service. Our children loved the kids’ club so much they’d wake up begging to go in. And if that wasn’t a big enough sign to say we had a great time, my four-year-old repeatedly asked us if we could stay there forever! Needless to say, we’ll be going back. What The Kids Loved Other than the excitement over the games and Lego room, playground, waffle making station and their very cool bunk-bed room, the kids adored the pool, which has stunning views of the ocean and a small section that they can happily stand up and play in. They loved running around the beach and playing in the small sand and rock pools. And the little shop provided all the bits we’d forgotten to bring. Plus, the hotel even has spare buckets, spades and nets left for you to borrow, and the children loved seeing what was in there every day. We’ve experienced a few holiday kids’ clubs, but this is the only one our children begged to go into. Our four-year-old even requested to go in twice in one day, which they kindly accommodated as it wasn’t fully booked. The kids’ daily sessions are also free and part of the price you pay to stay. What We Loved… The ease of packing up the car and driving down was brilliant. It took us about 4-5 hours with a stop and was much better than getting a plane and all the hassle that comes with it. When we got there, we left lots of things in the boot, and it worked well as our room wasn’t overloaded. The room was so lovely. We booked the standard family suite, which had ample space. The kid’s room was separated by a door, which was handy for privacy and when the babysitter came. We don’t usually do screentime first thing, but it had a TV, which was great if they woke up early as one of us would put it on for a bit and throw in a banana to give us a few more minutes to sleep. We’ve been to other family-friendly resorts, but I’ve never felt as comfortable as I did here. The staff were so accommodating, the menus and food were excellent for both kids and adults, and the fact that the children loved the kids’ club meant that we had time each day for a spa treatment, a surf or yoga lesson or even a nap. Any Downsides… It is quite expensive, but I think it’s so worth it! We stayed at an IKOS last year, and it was nearly triple the amount, even when we added how much we spent on food at Watergate. We also saved so much money (and stress) on flights. We spent money on some fancy dinners, but we didn’t have to, and many of our meals were from the independent food shack just outside the hotel. We also went to the local supermarket and had picnic lunches and dinners. Our room was quite warm and near the road, which meant opening windows and doors made it a bit noisy, but it didn’t bother us too much as there was a Dyson fan and we were so knackered from the fresh sea air, that we just slept. However, next year, we will return in the summer holidays, so we asked about rooms with A/C, and the manager showed us how we could pick our own room (more info below). How to Book… Watergate Bay Hotel Reservations Ring up the reservations team and ask their advice. They’re so honest and helpful, and there’s also a virtual tour you can do online, where you can view each room and all its specs—a handy one to know as you can place yourself in the perfect spot. Set the panic aside and remember the following words: FESTIVAL OUTFITS DO NOT HAVE TO = FANCY DRESS. In fact, you can wear stylish outfits that you’d wear on holiday, to a special occasion or just every day! And to make it even easier, we’ve selected our favourite six go-to items from NEXT. 6 Stylish Items That Make Dressing for a Festival Easy 1. The Mum rage is real people, and we can’t blame it all on postpartum hormones… When Someone Parks in Parent & Child Who Isn’t a Parent and Does Not Have a Child We endured 9 months of pregnancy and ripped our lady bits in two to earn this parenting perk; and we’ll be damned if a spotty teenager in a sodding Vauxhall Corsa gets to enjoy those 2 extra feet of door-opening space. When Another Kid Hits Your Kid Your voice might be saying: ‘Oh don’t worry, they all do it, he gives as good as he gets!’ but your brain is thinking ‘you stay away from my baby you little shit’. When Your Toddler Waves At Someone And They Don’t Wave Back Who hurt you?! How could you resist the greeting of my adorable baby’s chubby little hand?! When People Get Your Baby’s Gender Wrong A pink dress and a giant bow isn’t enough of a clue for you people?! How about the blanket with her name on it or the sippy cup that says ‘Mummy’s Little Princess?’ NO? REALLY?! When Your Baby Hurts You For someone who can barely hold a spoon, toddlers can’t half pack a powerful punch. When they’re not cutting their teeth on your nipples or they’re ripping chunks out of your already-balding-postpartum-head. When Your Mother in Law Favours The Other Grandchildren We know it’s probably us being totally irrational, entirely unreasonable etc etc, but is it too much to ask that everyone in the whole world thinks our child is the most special human being on the entire planet? When Strangers Touch Your Newborn We have no idea who you are, or where your probably filthy germ-infested hands have been, but back the hell off and STEP AWAY FROM THE BABY. When Older Kids Won’t Give Your Kid a Turn Ever stared out a 10-year-old because they wouldn’t get their skinny little bottom off the baby swing? We have, and we have absolutely zero shame. When Someone Judges You For Feeding Your Baby Oh hey there! These are breasts! 50% of the population have them! We haven’t whacked them out for shits and giggles, we actually require them to keep our tiny human alive. Move along people. When Someone Comments On Your Baby Body ‘You’re so big! When are you due?’ The kids in pre-school Karen, go mind your goddamn business! Tags 3minuteread, coffeebreakcatchup
The Best Energy Boosting FoodsRead More Post author By The Mum Club Post date 11 June 2024 The Best Energy Boosting Foods When you’ve experienced monumental sugar crashes that result in meltdowns, you know it’s a bad idea to give kids too many sugary treats – especially when they’re tired! But why don’t we apply the same rule to ourselves? Why Do I Crave Sugar When I’m Tired? Cravings for chocolate, biscuits or cake usually come during an energy slump or when we feel low and want comfort as they’re an instant and accessible source of energy. And while, in the short term, that can be helpful, if you have too much sugar, your body will experience a huge high that is followed by a low. And this causes you to feel more tired and stressed. While we’re not suggesting that we all avoid sweet treats entirely! A healthy diet that minimises sugar can really help prevent sugar highs and lows, mood swings and further cravings. Here are some tips that have helped us with regulating our energy levels. The Best Ways to Regulate Energy Levels Check Your Iron Levels Low iron levels can often make you feel fatigued, and a lot of women experience this during their period. Most new mums are tired all the time, but if you think there’s more to it than a broken sleep, speak to your doctor and ask them to check your levels. If you already know you have low iron levels, then taking a supplement (especially around your period) can help boost energy levels and fight fatigue. Buy Now Start Your Day the Right Way Having a bowl of healthy granola or muesli is a great way to start the day, as the seeds and nuts are a great source of omega-3s, and the oats provide a slow release of energy. You can also top it with fresh fruit and a touch of honey if you want an even sweeter bowl. Make Your Own Muesli When we can be bothered to do it, we never regret making our own muesli. It’s also an activity that toddlers love to help you prep. And it doesn’t create that much mess. It’s so easy to do, and all that’s required is a big mix of your favourite nuts, oats, cinnamon, and coconut oil. And then any extras once it’s baked, like dried cranberries, desiccated coconut and a drizzle of honey. Recipe The One to Buy… Not all granolas and mueslis are good for you, and many shop-bought packets contain a heavy dosage of sugary dried fruit. So, try to seek out the ones that are nut-based instead of fruit. On the days when you’d prefer someone else to do the prep, the best homemade muesli we’ve found is by Lakeland Mues, who toast all their muesli by hand in their Cumbrian countryside kitchen. Buy Now Sip a Wide-Awake Smoothie Rich in Vitamin C and fibre, this is an excellent drink to pair with iron-rich foods as Vitamin C aids absorption, while walnuts and avocado deliver protein and healthy fats to balance things out. The oats and nuts also slow down the absorption of sugar from the fruit, and cinnamon is known to reduce sugar cravings. Ingredients… 1 Mango ¼ Avocado 1 Tablespoon of Oats 6 Walnuts 250ml of your chosen milk Meals That Balance Your Energy Levels Mediterranean Baked Salmon Salmon is a rich source of multiple B vitamins, which play essential roles in releasing and transferring energy between cells in the body. It’s also good for brain function, which is helpful if you have the post-birth fuzz. Recipe Iron-Rich Steak Salad Swap sluggish baguettes for this delicious salad with juicy steak strips rich in protein, iron, vitamins, and flavour. Recipe Make This Energy Boosting Snack Walnut Blueberry Energy Bites Plant-based walnut blueberry energy bites are the perfect snack to keep on hand. They’re filled with healthy fats and fibre to fuel you throughout your day. Recipe
Tried and Tested: The Best Eyelash Growth SerumsRead More All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however, we may make a commission on some products. Post author By The Mum Club Post date 11 June 2024 Tried and Tested: The Best Eyelash Growth Serums Everyone talks about postpartum hair loss, but no one tells you about thinning eyelashes. So, in a bid to bring back some volume, TMC’s Style and Content Creator, Luzaan Shaw, tested out some of the best on the market. 1. The One Approved by Ophthalmologists uklash Eyelash Serum “You use this in the evening before bed, and it works overnight. The formula conditions your lashes but also encourages growth. And I saw a noticeable difference in my lashes, with them looking fuller after just 2 weeks! It takes seconds to apply by swiping it across your lash line, and it’s safe for lash extensions and contact lens wearers. I also love that you can get your money back if you aren’t satisfied with the results after 12 weeks.” Buy Now 2. The One That’s Also a Mascara Glow For It – Lash Growth Mascara “Finding the time to add a lash growth serum into your daily routine can feel like a struggle. But this mascara saves you the effort, as it’s full of natural ingredients that encourage hair growth. I loved using it as it’s a really good waterproof mascara. However, removing it is a little tricky, and I can’t say I’ve noticed a difference in my lashes. It could be that it takes a lot longer to see the effects. So, I suppose there’s no harm in using it while you use another serum, as every little helps.” Buy Now 3. The One That’s Won Awards Grande Lash MD “This one is pretty pricey, so I was expecting a lot. You need to use it every day to see results, but after a month, not much has changed. My lashes feel softer, but I wouldn’t say I’ve seen a difference in growth or volume. However, it’s won tons of awards, so maybe it’s worth waiting a little longer to see results as it does say that you can expect thicker-looking lashes in 4-6 weeks.” Buy Now The One We’d Buy… uklash Eyelash Serum “I loved all these products, but the one that stood out the most was the UK lash serum. I’d 100% buy this. And I’ve recommended it to all my friends, family, and anyone who will listen. Not only did I notice my lashes getting fuller and longer after two weeks, but my friends noticed too, and I always get compliments on how long my lashes are now. I also love that dermatologists and ophthalmologists approve it, so if I accidentally get a bit in my eyes, I don’t get stressed about it.” Pro tip: “I only apply mine to my upper lashes while my eyes are closed. This then goes onto my lower lashes, which are much longer and healthier now too.” Buy Now All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however, we may make a commission on some products.
12 Films And TV Shows That Portray Motherhood BrilliantlyRead More Post author By The Mum Club Post date 7 June 2024 12 Films And TV Shows That Portray Motherhood Brilliantly For when you need a hard relate… Workin’ Moms Warm, loyal PR executive Kate and her longtime friend, no-nonsense psychiatrist Anne, attend a judgmental mommies’ group, where they meet timid IT tech Jenny and blindly optimistic real estate agent Frankie. The four quickly form an unlikely friendship, sharing struggles of urban motherhood filled with the chaos of toddlers, tantrums, careers, and identity crises, all while trying to achieve the holy grail: a sense of self. Watch Now Trying All Nikki and Jason want is a baby — the one thing they can’t have — so they decide to adopt; with their dysfunctional friends, screwball families and chaotic lives, the adoption panel may not agree they’re ready to be parents. Watch Now The Let Down New mother Audrey needs help with the new addition to her family, so she joins a support group for new parents. While attending meetings, she makes quirky friends who are facing their own challenges and life changes. Outside of the group, she seeks support from work-stressed partner Jeremy and even the neighbourhood drug dealer. As Audrey navigates the learning curve that comes with motherhood, she deals with issues that include sleeplessness, shifting relationship dynamics and Jeremy’s career ambitions. Watch Now Tully Having a kid is hard. Having three kids—one of whom is a newborn baby—isn’t just three times harder. The challenges increase exponentially to the point of surrealism, a sensation writer Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman nail with their latest comic drama, “Tully.” In their third collaboration, Cody and Reitman have crafted no confectionery ode to motherhood. There’s no wacky mad dash to the hospital, followed by cataclysmic screams for comic effect. In the same vein as 2007’s “Juno” and 2011’s “Young Adult,” “Tully” unearths uncomfortable truths in a wry, wise way. Watch Now Motherland Written by a team that includes multiple award winners Sharon Horgan and Graham Linehan, this sitcom focuses on middle-class parents and the everyday challenges they encounter. From the competitiveness of the morning school run, to the sheer pandemonium of hosting a children’s party, `Motherland’ gives an honest and amusing depiction of life as a modern-day mother or father to small kids. Armed with their own individual parenting techniques, the leading characters try their best to carry out their responsibilities calmly, tackling each humour-filled situation as it arises. Watch Now Ginny and Georgia The mother and daughter dynamic is explored with gusto in the ballsy comedy drama, Ginny and Georgia. Georgia is a confident, playful and whimsical mama who acts as both caregiver and bestie to her 15-year-old daughter Ginny, who she gave birth to at the same age. We love that Georgia owns all parts of herself (not allowing anyone to judge her for becoming a mum at 15) and revels in her femininity and sex appeal. Extra kudos to the makers of Ginny and Georgia for tackling the racial politics of the white mother/biracial daughter dynamic. Watch Now Moxie With social activism being such a prominent feature of our society, it was only a matter of time before films started documenting this era of social change. Moxie tells the story of a shy, high school teen who inspired by her mum who has strong activist roots, creates an anonymous e-zine which she distributes throughout school to call out the social ills of sexism, racism and misogyny. Moxie perfectly demonstrates how as mothers we can positively impact our children by helping them to find their voice and use it as a force for good. Watch Now Behind Her Eyes Who else has been hooked on this six-part drama/thriller on Netflix, Behind Her Eyes? Starring Simona Brown in the lead role, Brown plays Louise, a single mum who embarks on an affair with her boss while also befriending his wife. Despite being a loving and devoted mother to the adorable son Adam (Tyler Howitt), Louise makes some questionable life choices, and we couldn’t have been the only ones frequently screaming at the TV: “Gurrrl, don’t do it”. Louise serves as a reminder that being a mum doesn’t mean you’re infallible. To be human is to be imperfectly messy. Watch Now Life of The Party If you’re a middle-aged woman whose husband unceremoniously dumps you unexpectedly, what do you do? Well, you enrol in your 20-year-old daughter’s college to complete your degree and do-over your young adult years, of course. Life of The Party is a light-hearted comedy starring Melissa McCarthy that serves as a reminder that it’s never too late for us as women/mothers to pivot and change the trajectory of our lives. Watch Now Firefly Lane Firefly Lane stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as two besties who lead dramatically different lives and enjoy a friendship that spans several decades. Although this warm and fuzzy hearted Netfilx series has friendship at its pulse, it also scrutinises the complex relationship between mothers and their daughters during the tricky teen years. Watch Now The Single Moms Club Single mums tend to be marginalised in our society, so it’s awesome to see it explored in such an honest and compassionate way as is the case with the The Single Moms Club. Directed by Tyler Perry and starring Nia Long, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Amy Smart, this spirited comedy drama centres on five single mums from very different social/cultural backgrounds who realise they have more in common and form a support group to help overcome life’s challenges. Watch Now Otherhood We very rarely get the perspective of motherhood from that of empty nesters, and that’s what makes Otherhood such a cinematic treat. When three mums come together to lament that they feel neglected by their adult sons who have flown the coop and lead busy lives, they hatch a plan to travel to New York City to surprise them. Otherhood has some real tender moments, and is a poignant, heartfelt tale that reminds us that the mother and child bond is imperishable. Watch Now
